The Real Truth About Me!

By: Briana Biggio

Welcome to GenZLifeLens, where I will be handing you some of my best tips, tricks, and advice on how to survive high school. Whether you are a freshman or a senior, or maybe even in college, you will find something that could pertain to your life and help you in the long run. I am currently a high school senior who has gone through her fair share of drama, class stress, and just the pressure of managing everything that is expected of you from your parents, teachers, friends, and maybe even yourself most of all.

To start off my first ever blog post (which I personally never thought I would get the nerve to do), I thought I would tell you a bit about myself and the summary of my high school career thus far. Starting off strong was my Freshman year of 2020. Yes, I was a COVID freshman. No, it was not my academic demise as everyone tends to say. Going through my freshman year, I was a member of the Varsity cheer team as well as a Biomedical STEM program. I continued with these programs and clubs for the next two years until I reached my birthday, which resided halfway through my first semester of junior year. This is the year that people I thought would always have my back turned on me, and pushed me out of my own safe haven, school. I was bullied relentlessly by girls on my cheer team, which then spread throughout my Junior class, causing me so much anxiety and stress going to school that I would call my mom crying, begging her to let me stay home. I was talked badly about by teachers, students, coaches, and teammates, and I never even found out why. I then decided in early November to pursue independent study for two months, where I did not do as well as everyone hoped due to my mental health. After going through everything that I did, my mom, district counselor, and I decided that it would be best if I were to transfer schools. This is what saved me.

While transferring schools was one of the most difficult decisions that I have made, it made me a better person by teaching me more about myself, my ability to open up and make friends, and also the strength of my faith. So far, my senior year has been one of my best years yet, and that’s probably through the work I put into therapy to learn coping methods that I have applied to everything that has or could go wrong, as well as my faith that God will help me through any obstacles that come my way and lead me down the path to greatness.

Now, before you leave this post thinking that I am just here to talk about myself, understand that this post wasn’t to actually give you any advice or tips about high school. In fact, it wasn’t even to teach you anything at all. Right here, right now, my main focus was to tell you who I am, and give you a gist of what I have been through so you can understand I’m not just saying things for the sake of it—they work for me. I’ve had to create the tools and learn the lessons with little to no guidance, so this is to help you see that there is someone who can guide you.

If you want to stay tuned and come back around next week to hear my first piece of advice, make sure you subscribe, and if you have any specific questions about High School or want me to address any specific topics, feel free to leave suggestions in the comment section below.

Well, that’s a wrap on my first post, Gen Zers! I hope y’all have a great week, make sure you study but have fun too; you only survive high school once, you know!
